A four-time all-conference selection, Pete Padgett averaged a double-double and never missed a game in his career. He was named the West Coast Athletic Conference newcomer of the year and earned second- team all-conference honors as a freshman basketball in 1973. From then on, he turned in three straight all-conference years from 1974-76. He ended his career as Nevada’s rebounding leader by a wide margin with 1,464 (14.1 per game). He still holds the NCAA record for rebounding average by a freshman (17.8 rpg in 1972) and ranks in the NCAA top 20 for rebounds in a season (462 in 1973). Although he never led a team in scoring any individual year, he was third on the all-time scoring with 1,642 (15.8 per game). His rebounding figures led the WCAC four consecutive years, which he turned a school-record 72 double-doubles. At the time of his induction into the Hall of Fame, he was still the WCAC career assist leader with 784 (conference games only). Padgett received the Doc Martie Award in 1976 as Nevada’s top male senior student-athlete. Padgett was selected in the sixth round (88th overall) by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1976 NBA Draft but never played in the league. He went on to become a teacher and successful basketball coach at Carson City and Reno high schools.
