Quarterback Jeff Tisdel was a Division II All-America selection as a junior in 1976 and a senior in 1977, head coach Chris Ault’s first All-American. He set every school record in total offense and passing at the time, records that were only broken much later by Eric Beavers. Tisdel remained in second place on those records lists, including yards passing (6,098), touchdowns passing (59), completions (394), attempts (776), and total offense (6,050). In 1976 and 1977, the Wolf Pack was 16-6. In 1977, Tisdel was selected to play in the East-West Shrine game, the only Division II player selected that year and the first UNR player to participate in that even for three decades. After graduation, Tisdel began a career in coaching career, starting at Fallon High school in 1979 and moving to Sacramento’s Christian Brothers High School from 1980-85. In 1985, he advanced to the college ranks by accepting a position at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. He returned to the University of Nevada as the running backs coach in 1988 and ultimately became Nevada’s head coach from 1996-99 where he turned in a 23-22 record in four seasons. His 1996 team compiled a 9–3 record, secured the Big West Conference title and won the 1996 Las Vegas Bowl, Nevada's first victory in an NCAA Division I-A bowl game. After Nevada, he went onto find success in the junior college ranks, coaching Sierra Junior College to a 176-76-1 record and three conference titles in two stints from 2000-05 and 2007-11.
