An undersized forward and jumper with few peers, Napoleon Montgomery is one of the best scorers in Nevada basketball history. He also competed on the Wolf Pack track and field team during his career. He still ranks 20th in all-time scoring with 1,249 career points (16.0 points per game) and seventh in career rebounding at 11.4 boards per contest. Playing for head coach and fellow Hall of Famer Jack Spencer, he helped lead Nevada to a Far Western Conference title in 1965-66 with a 21 -6 overall mark and a 10-0 conference record. After he graduated, Montgomery went on to become the head basketball coach and later the dean of students at Englewood High School where he had starred as a high school player. His 1996-97 team went 24-5 and he was named the Chicago Public League’s Coach of the Year.
