A defensive end for the Wolf Pack, Charles Mann was named Most Valuable Defensive Lineman for the Big Sky Conference in 1982. In his senior year in 1982, he led the Big Sky in sacks with a total of 14. Nevada’s highest NFL Draft pick, Mann was drafted in 1983 by the Washington Redskins. Mann had eight seasons with more than 60 tackles for the Redskins. In 1992, he had a career high with 91 total tackles (46 solos). Mann helped the Redskins to Super Bowl championships in 1987 and 1991 and finished his career with 82 sacks, second-most in franchise history, and 17 forced fumbles, the most in franchise history. Mann finished his career during the 1994 season with the San Francisco 49ers and added his third Super Bowl championship ring before retiring. Mann was among the top ten active sack leaders in the NFL when he retired. He then went on to sports broadcasting and hosted a TV show in the Washington DC area. The 1993 “Washingtonian of the Year,” Mann is also active with numerous community organizations and helped found the Good Samaritan Foundation with his Washington teammates Art Monk, Tim Johnson and Earnest Byner. The foundation provides youth with the environment needed to equip them with the skills, training and resources necessary to compete successfully in society through the Student Training Opportunity Program.
