Baseball, Football (1971-73)
Ed Plank played football and baseball for two seasons from 1971-73 after transferring from Pasadena Community College. He played inside linebacker under Coach Jerry Scattini who considered him “one of our top layers. Terms such as leadership, toughness, aggressiveness, dedication, determination to win, and consistently outstanding performance exemplified his play.” As a baseball pitcher, Plank set significant records which still stood when he was inducted into the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame. He set the career earned run average (2.63) and season earned run average (1.79, 1973) and was sixth in career wins despite being a two-year player. He also ranked fourth in career strikeouts and second in career complete games despite not being in the top ten in career appearances or innings pitched.
