A two-year member of the Nevada Wolf Pack football team, Dave Clapham, an offensive tackle, was named a small college All-American by the Associated Press. A transfer to Nevada from San Jose City College, Clapham helped his team to consecutive winning seasons (6-5 in 1972 and 7-4 in 1973) under the direction of Coach Jerry Scattini. The seven wins in 1973 were the most for a Nevada football team since 1948. Clapham also boxed as a heavyweight for two years and was undefeated in league matches. After graduating with his degree in political science in 1974, Clapham signed professional contracts with the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Colts in 1975 but did not make either team. He played semi-professional football with the San Jose Tigers from 1977-82 and has been very instrumental in the area of combating gang-related crime. He also coached football at various levels for over 10 years.
