Fred Dallimore was an all-state pitcher at Reno High before starring on the mound for the University of Nevada for four years. He turned in an 11-1 senior year on the mound with a nation-leading 1.52 earned run average. After graduating from the University, he went on to coach the baseball team at UNLV, serving as an assistant coach at UNLV under Bob Doering from 1969-73. He became the Rebels’ head coach in 1974 and compiled an overall record of 795-558 in his 23 years, which ranks 31st on the NCAA career victories list. He took the team to the NCAA Championships seven times and won the 1996 Big West Tournament championship. In addition to the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame, Dallimore is also a member of the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame and the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame, while in 1997, he joined Jerry Tarkanian as the only two coaches to have their numbers retired in UNLV history.Â
