SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – On Saturday, the Nevada Wolf Pack track team competed in the Hornet Invitational which saw multiple top finishes,personal bests, and a fourth place team finish.
The first big event for the Pack was the 100 meter hurdles. The first mark was set by senior Nicola Ader, who won the event with her time of 14.02. That wouldn't be all, as sophomore Sarah Marske earned a second place finish with her time of 14.25. The time beating her old personal best of 14.43 and ties her for 10th all-time at Nevada in the event with Agnese Mulatero.
Other times during the event included three other top-12 finishes. Junior Carolyn Ross finished the meet in ninth with her time of 15.01. Senior Anna Maria Sommerfeld earned her 11th place finish with a time of 15.05. Tying that time and finishing just behind Sommerfeld was senior Hanah Smrt who finished in 12th.
Smrt wouldn't stop there, as she would go on to win the long jump later on with her mark of 5.79m. The mark would get her the win and would also beat her old personal best of 5.76m in the outdoor long jump.
Two other Pack members joined Smrt in the finals of the long jump. Junior Rayven Nealey would finish in third with her distance of 5.72m. This mark beating her old personal best of 5.39m by a large margin. Also competing in her first outdoor collegiate meet was junior Maria Milani, who finished in eighth place with a mark of 5.32m.
In the triple jump, both Nealey and Milani continued their success where the duo finished in the top-five. Nealey won the triple jump with her mark of 12.04m. Nealey currently sits third all-time at Nevada with a distance of 12.69m. Milani in her first meet finished in fifth with her mark of 11.73m. Just below the 10th all-time Nevada mark that is set at 11.81m.
Field event athletes continued their success in other events as well. The javelin saw sophomore Emily Poole earn another second place finish with her distance of 43.41m. The three other Pack members competing also finished in the top-10. Senior Gaia Osborne finished in sixth with her distance of 39.34m. Sommerfeld finished in eighth with her mark of 37.39m. Finally, freshman Isabelle Steerman finished in 10th with her mark of 36.89m.
Sprinters throughout the day would compete in two events. One being the 200m dash. Junior Emily Costello earned a second place finish with her time of 24.18. The other top-10 finish would come from sophomore Lillian Gregg, who finished the event in 10th with her time of 25.38. This being just off her personal best time of 25.14.
Some other marks in the 200m dash include a 26.04 time by Sommerfeld who finished in 22nd. Only .20 seconds behind Sommerfeld was sophomore Kylie Burton whose time of 26.24 put her in 24th. Lastly, Ross finished in 28th with her time of 26.30.
In the 100m dash, Costello would finish the meet in fourth with a time of 11.79. Gregg earned a new personal best, with her 15th plae time of 12.42. This beating her old mark of 12.55. Burton finished in 18th with a time of 12.72. This being Burton's first collegiate 100m. Lastly, just behind her was Ross with a time of 12.76.
Finally, there were two Pack athletes who competed in their events individually. Ader would win her second event of the day in the high jump with her mark of 1.75m. Freshman Camrin Dolcini competed in her first outdoor meet and earned a mark of 3.35m in the pole vault. This mark was good enough for a ninth place finish.
The Wolf Pack team will look forward to a long weekend of competition during the Aztec Invitational that starts on Mar. 25.
