Reno, Nev. - Nevada Track and Field kicked off the Silver State Invitational and Combined Events, Thursday, with the Pack pentathletes getting competition started.Â
The first pentathlon event of the day was the 60-meter hurdles.
Johanna Haas led the way for the Wolf Pack, running a time of 8.71 seconds to set the second fastest time in the pentathlon field. Next best for the Pack was Valeria Paez-Rueda with a time of 9.07, placing 9th, closely followed by
Alma Kathan in 10th (9.14). Rounding out the Pack's pentathlon hurdles results were
Hazel Gaspaire in 13th (9.39) and
Lilly Urban 14th (9.41).Â
Next up for the pentathletes was the high jump, where Valeria Paez-Rueda and
Hazel Gaspaire, both clearing 1.63m and placing 6th and 7th in flight two.
Alma Kathan put on a personal best display, clearing 1.60m for the first time in her collegiate career to place 10th in flight two.
Johanna Haas put up a good fight in flight one, clearing 1.57m to place second.
Lilly Urban rounded out the Pack high jump performances, clearing 1.51m to place fifth in flight one.Â
The Pack collected three personal bests in the shot put, with
Johanna Haas leading the way, throwing 13.23m, placing second overall. Next best was
Lilly Urban, who threw 11.04m, another personal best, placing seventh overall. Valeria Paez-Rueda was the best of the second flight, throwing 10.03m,
Alma Kathan followed, throwing a personal best 9.52m. Rounding out the Pack was
Hazel Gaspaire who threw 8.26m.Â
The penultimate event of the pentathlon was the long jump, with
Alma Kathan posting the best mark for the Pack, jumping 5.66m to place third overall. Next best for the Pack was Valeria Paez-Rueda and
Hazel Gaspaire, both reaching a mark of 5.22m, tying for 11th overall. Rounding out the Pack was
Lilly Urban, who reached a mark of 4.88m.
Johanna Haas failed to record a jump.Â
The 800m race rounded out the Pentathlon, with
Johanna Haas leading the way for the Wolf Pack with a time of 2:32.16 to finish in 6th, closely followed by
Alma Kathan in 7th (2:32.76). Valeria Paez-Rueda placed 9th with a time of 2:34.16 and
Hazel Gaspaire rounded out the Pack finishers in 18th (2:54.64).Â
Day two will kick off at 10am tomorrow.Â
