Gobin, Dimayuga Excel on Day One of The Prestige at PGA West

LA QUINTA, Calif. - Liam Gobin recorded his best round of the season by carding a 68 (-3), and Enrique Dimayuga shot even par in his debut appearance for the Pack, as the Nevada Men's Golf team put together a tremendous back-nine to finish the first day of competition tied for 15th in a field loaded with top-tier talent at The Prestige at PGA West.

Nevada recorded a team score of 290 (+7) across the first 18 holes of play on Monday. After a challenging front nine, the Pack significantly elevated their play over the final nine holes, as the team shot up the leaderboard and found themselves tied for 15th, within striking distance of a multitude of teams ahead of them.

Gobin led the way with what was his best round for the Wolf Pack, and his score of 68 (-3) placed him in a tie for 12th overall in a field of 120 golfers entering the second round. Gobin tallied six pars and two bogeys across the first eight holes; however, he found his rhythm and played at a sensational level over the final 10 holes. The junior tallied five pars and five birdies over the remainder of the round and will carry substantial momentum into Tuesday.

Making his debut appearance for the Pack after joining the program ahead of the spring season, Dimayuga was stellar on Monday, particularly on the back-nine. The senior tallied four pars, two birdies, two double bogeys, and one bogey on the front-nine, entering the second set of nine holes at +5. Like Gobin, Dimayuga took his play to an exceptional level on the back-nine, as he recorded five pars, three birdies, and one eagle on the par-5 16th hole. Dimayuga finished five shots below par on the back-nine, completing the day tied for 37th overall at even par.

Freshman Jonathan Kim carried over the momentum he built in the fall season, carding an opening-round 74 (+3) to complete the day tied for 76th. Kim also played his best golf on the back nine. Across the front nine, he recorded five pars, two bogeys, one double bogey and one birdie. Kim hit the turn and found his rhythm, as he tallied seven pars, one bogey, and one birdie on the second set of nine holes to conclude the first round at +3.

Senior Tom Patterson did not have his best performance in the first round of The Prestige, as he recorded an opening round score of 77 (+6); however, Patterson ended his day in strong fashion, earning a birdie on two of the final three holes. Patterson enters the second round tied for 104th on the individual leaderboard.

Ryan Sear rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup, carding a 78 (+7) across the first round. Sear had a difficult front-nine; but, he finished the back-nine at -1.
