Nevada in second place after 36 holes at The Watney

Fresno, Calif. - Nevada Men's Golf opened play at The Watney hosted by Fresno State at San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno, California, Monday, heading into the final round at four over-par, in second place just three strokes behind team leaders UC San Diego. The Pack's consistent play over the first 36 holes resulted in leading the field in pars as well as par 5 scoring average.

Leading the way for the Wolf Pack was freshman Riki Matsumoto, sitting in second place after two rounds at two under par following rounds of one over-par 72Ā and three under-par 68. Matsumoto played consistent golf over the two rounds, only making three bogies offset by five birdies, four of them coming in the second round. Matsumoto is just three strokes behind heading into tomorrow's final round.Ā 

Liam Gobin and Jonathan Kim sit tied for 12th through 36 holes, matching each other in both rounds, posting 71-72=143 for a one over-par 36 hole total. Gobin played solid in round one, making two birdies offset by two bogies. In round two Gobin showed great fight, following a four over through seven start, he made three birdies on the way in to post one over-par. Jonathan Kim also made two birdies offset by two bogies in round one and in round two he made one birdie offset by two bogies. Kim will look for some more birdies to creep into the top 10 tomorrow.Ā 

Ben Ortwein sits as the third best 36 hole score for the Pack, posting a two round total of 147 (+5). Ortwein made a birdie and an eagle in round one offset by three bogies and a double. In round two he made two birdies offset by five bogeys. Ortwein sits in 32nd place and will look to keep the bogies off the card in tomorrow's final round.Ā 

Rounding out the Wolf Pack starters was Monte Chumchaivate, who sits in 54th at nine over-par after two rounds. Chumchaivate went birdieless in round one, but showed better play in round two, making three birdies en route to a two over-par 73.Ā 

Playing as an individual, Aaron Leach posted a two round total of eight over par, making three birdies through 36 holes. Leach will look to keep the bogies off the card in the final round to make a push up the leaderboard.Ā 

The Pack tees off at 8:15 a.m. PT tomorrow as they look to make a push towards a tournament win.Ā
