SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -
Peyton Callens fired a five-under 66 in Monday's second round of the USF Invitational on the Olympic Club Lake Course, placing himself atop the individual leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round.
Callens, at five-under (71-66=137), holds a one-stroke lead over a trio of golfers at -4, with two more two strokes back at -3. The Langton, Ontario, native's second round started with a bogey at No. 8, but from there Callens caught fire. After three-straight pars steadied the ship, Callens birdied No. 12 to get back to even, then, after three more pars, went on a run of four birdies in a row.
After a bogey at No. 2, Callens got par at No. 3, before two-straight birdies at Nos. 4 and 5 brought him to five-under.
Teammate
Tom Patterson is tied for 15th at +1, firing rounds of 71 and 72 Monday.
On the team leaderboard, Nevada sits tied for fifth at +3 (287-284=571), ending the day with an even-par second round. The strong second round brought the Pack to within four strokes of leader BYU (-1), as the top six teams in the field are separated by just four strokes entering the final round.
