PROVO, Utah – The Nevada men's golf team opened up play at the PING Cougar Classic on Friday and is tied for 11
th place after day one.
The Wolf Pack fired a team score of a 3-under par 285 in Friday's first round, but could not complete round two due to darkness out on the course. Round two will wrap up in the morning ahead of Saturday's final round. There was only one Nevada player left on the course who was unable to complete his round. The Pack will enter the final day of competition in a tie for 11
th place in the 19-team field. San Francisco will take a six-shot team lead over New Mexico into the final day.
Peyton Callens was the lone Wolf Pack player who was unable to finish his second round. He will have two holes remaining in round two, which he will complete in the morning. He is currently leading the team in a tie for 18
th in the 104-player field. Callens carded an even par 72 in the morning and is 2-under in his second round with two holes remaining.
Sam Meek is also inside the top 30 as he fired rounds of 73 and 71 today and is at even par overall for the tournament.
Brendan MacDougall posted the low Wolf Pack round of the day, shooting a 3-under par 69 in round one where he collected six birdies. MacDougall struggled in round two with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 42
nd heading into the final round.
Sam Harned is tied for 69
th at 5-over par, while
Trey Davis is at 7-over par and in a tie for 81
st.
Mitch Abbott is also competing this week as an individual and is tied for 100
th.
Boise State's Hugo Townsend and San Francisco's Tim Widing lead the individual field at 10-under par. They have a one-shot lead heading into Saturday's final round.
