DAVIS, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team wrapped up competition at the El Macero Classic on Monday finishing in 11
th place.
The Wolf Pack combined to shoot a team score of 298 on Monday to finish in 11
th place at 16-over par for the tournament. Nevada was just five shots back of a top 10 finish in the 15-team field. UC Davis and Saint Mary's shared co-team title honors as the Aggies and Gaels both finished the event at 16-under par, besting runner-up San Francisco by two shots.
Peyton Callens, who was entered as an individual this week and therefore his score did not count towards the team score, was the highest finishing member of the Wolf Pack in a tie for 21
st place. Callens fired a team-best round of 68 in Monday's final round to jump 20 spots and into the top 25 in the 80-player field. His 4-under 68 also brought him to even par for the tournament. Callens had an almost perfect round of golf today as he collected five birdies during his round and just one bogey.
Sam Meek also scored a top 30 finish as he tied for 27
th place at 2-over par. Meek began the day in the top 15, but struggled a bit in his final round to post a 4-over 76.
Sam Harned and
Brendan MacDougall each finished inside the top 40 as Harned tied for 35
th and MacDougall tied for 39
th place. Harned recorded an even par 72 for the second straight round, while MacDougall was one shot behind Harned with a 73 on Monday.
Connor Motherway tied for 46
th place at 6-over par, and
Trey Davis tied for 64
th at 11-over.
Fresno State's Matthew Sutherland claimed individual medalist honors at 13-under par. Sutherland bested runner-up Matt McCarty of Santa Clara by two shots.
Nevada has one more regular season event left as it will compete in the BYU Cougar Classic April 23-24 at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
