PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The 33rd ranked Nevada men's golf team is tied for 12
th after a two-over first round at the Saint Mary's Invitational Monday.
The Pack is tied with Loyola Marymount (+2, 286) and BYU (+2, 286) after the opening 18 holes of play at Poppy Hills Golf Club. Stanford leads the field with a 15-under (269), San Francisco is second after shooting seven-under (277), Santa Clara and Oregon are tied for third at four-under (280), and San Diego rounds out the top five after firing a two-under (282).
Quim Vidal Mora shot one-under-par (70) with five birdies to lead Nevada. Vidal Mora was impressive on the back-nine firing a four-under to gain momentum going into the second day of play tomorrow.
On hole five,
Trey Davis posted a double-bogey but rallied with a two-under on the back nine to finish an even 71 for the opening round. Davis recorded three birdies, all on the back-nine of play, to rally from an early hole and enter the clubhouse tied for 33
rd.
A.J. Lintunen shot a one-over 72 with one eagle (ninth hole) and one birdie (10
th hole) to finish his first 18 tied for 41
st.
Peyton Callens got off to a bumpy start with bogeys on holes three, five, and six but birdies on two, seven, and nine sent him into the turn at even (36). Callens recorded a bogey on 11 and 12 then hit for par for the rest of the round, finished two-over (73), and tied for 54
th.
Connor Motherway fired a six-over 77 to enter the clubhouse tied for 93
rd.
Nevada is back in action with round two getting underway at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start to the second 18 holes of the Saint Mary's Invitational tomorrow.
