Peyton Callens career-low 65 leads Pack to 7th at Ka'anapali Classic

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Peyton Callens tied a career-low round (65) and finished 10th to lead the 33rd-ranked Nevada men's golf team to a 7th-place finish in the Ka'anapali Classic on Sunday.

Kansas ran away from the field with a 52-under score (268+262+270 = 800) to win the Ka'anapali Classic Championship by 20 strokes. Brandon Berry of Loyola Maryland won the individual title after firing a 16-under (197).

Colorado finished second at 32-under par (820), Boise State shot 28-under (826) to finish third after jumping three spots with a 14-under third round, CSU-Northridge tied UConn for fourth (-26), Denver was sixth (-21), and Nevada finished 7th with a combined 20-under par after shooting seven-under during the third and final round today.

Peyton Callens shot 65-under during the final round to record the lowest single-round score for Nevada in the tournament. Callens posted an eagle on nine and birdied six holes during his impressive 10th-place finish in the Classic, rising six spots on the final day by shooting six-under-par. He last hit 65 during the third round of the Mountain West Championships last season.

After a stellar second round yesterday, Quim Vidal Mora dropped 10 spots today with a two-over 73 moving to six-under and finishing tied for 19th. Mora ran into some trouble on nine with a double-bogey and bogeys on 15, 16, and 18 erased his eagle on six to finish two-over for the third round.

Trey Davis matched his first round (69) with another 69 today, recording six birdies to finish the day and the tournament two-under to tie for 26th. A.J. Lintunen' tied with Davis at two-under after the closing day with one-under-par golf (70).

Adam Thorpe closed out the 54-hole tournament with a three-over to finish tied for 70th (+12).

The Pack is back in action on Nov. 8 in the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif., with the final tournament of the fall semester. Following the conclusion of that tournament, the Wolf Pack will be back in action on Mar. 2 in the Desert Intercollegiate hosted by Wyoming in Palm Desert, Calif.
