CRESWELL, Ore. – After two rounds of play at the Duck Invitational, the Nevada men's golf team is three shots back of the team lead with 18 holes to go.
The Wolf Pack held the team lead after the opening round, combining for a team score of 281 (7-under), which gave the team a 5-shot lead after 18 holes. The afternoon round was a different story though as Nevada struggled and finished with an 11-over team score of 299. The Pack now sits at 4-over for the tournament and trails Oregon State and tournament host Oregon by three shots. Nevada is seeking its fourth team win of the season.
Individually the Wolf Pack was led by junior
Sam Meek, who was the only Nevada player to finish the day under par. Meek was consistently in the top 10 all day long and enters the final round tied for third in the 88-player field. Meek fired rounds of 71 and 72 and is 1-under for the tournament, three shots behind Cameron Kaneko of Hawai'i for the individual lead. Meek made eight birdies in the two rounds, including five in the second round.
Sophomore
Joey Vrzich fired one of the team-low rounds of the day in the morning, shooting a 2-under 70. Vrzich got off to a rocky start at 3-over through the first four holes, but birdied holes 6-8 and played the rest of his round to perfection to stay at 2-under. He shot a 75 in the afternoon and is currently tied for 12
th with one round left.
Fellow sophomore
Sam Harned also carded a 70 in the first round, but finished one shot behind Vrzich in round two with a 76 and is tied for 19
th. Harned held the individual lead for most of the opening round, starting his round 5-under through 13 before committing his first bogey of the day. Freshman
Trey Davis produced a nearly identical day to Harned, shooting rounds of 70 and 76 to sit in a tie for 19
th. Davis' opening round of 70 ties his season low. Junior
Stephen Osborne rounded out the list of Pack golfers in a tie for 78
th. Osborne recorded rounds of 76 and 82 on Monday.
