SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After 36 holes of the Olympic Club Intercollegiate at the Olympic Club, the Nevada men's golf team is in second place.
The Wolf Pack sits at 5-under par after the first two rounds and trails Cal State Fullerton by five shots heading into the final round. Nevada carded team scores of 288 in the morning and turned it on in the second, shooting a 275. The Pack and the Titans are the only two teams in the field of 13 currently under par. Nevada is seven shots ahead of BYU for the runner-up position.
Nevada has three of its five inside the top 15 in the 72-player field, and two in the top five. Juniors
Sam Meek and
Stephen Osborne are both tied for fourth place at 3-under for the tournament. They trail Derek Castillo of Cal State Fullerton for the individual lead by five shots. Meek carded a 73 in the first round, but drastically improved in round two with a 5-under 66. Meek made five birdies in the second round and eagled the par 4 18
th. Osborne fired an even par 71 in the morning but also turned it on in the second, shooting a career-low 68. Osborne was perfect in round two, making three birdies and no bogeys.
Sophomore
Sam Harned also holds a spot in the top 15, tied for 15
th after 36 holes of action. Harned played extremely well in the opening round, shooting a 4-under 67 but struggled to a round of 77 in round two. Freshman
Trey Davis on the other hand struggled in the morning but turned it around to card a 1-under 70, tying his career low. Davis sits at 5-over par and tied for 33
rd. Sophomore
Joey Vrzich is one shot behind Davis at 6-over and tied for 37
th after shooting rounds of 77 and 71 on Monday.
