Wolf Pack moves into tie for fourth after second round

STOCKTON, Calif. – After a productive second round at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, the Nevada men's golf team moved up to a tie for fourth with one round remaining.

The Wolf Pack began the day in ninth place and used a 7-under par team round to jump five spots into a tie for fourth after 36 holes. Nevada is tied with Fresno State at 3-under for the tournament. Another Mountain West foe, San Jose State, continues to lead the field of 16 teams and will take a four-shot lead over No. 5 BYU into Wednesday's final round. The Spartans are currently 13-under par.

All four of Nevada's counting scores on Tuesday were at par or better, led by a 3-under 69 from sophomore Trey Davis. Davis, who shot a 77 yesterday, jumped 32 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 38th at 2-over for the tournament. Davis collected five birdies during his round, and played his final 13 holes at 4-under with no bogeys. Senior Tony Gil is tied with Davis in the 38th spot after carding an even par round of 72 on Tuesday.

Senior Sam Harned remains the top Wolf Pack player in the field of 96 after another solid outing. Harned shot a 2-under 70 in the second round, making three birdies to just one bogey. He enters the final round in fourth place, six shots behind Sean Yu of San Jose State for the individual lead. Fellow senior Sam Meek improved his score by three strokes today after also turning in a 2-under 70. Meek moved up seven spots into a tie for 18th and is 1-under for the event. Sophomore Cam Kellett rounded out the Pack lineup in a tie for 82nd after shooting a 5-over 77 on Tuesday.

The top round of the day for Nevada though goes to sophomore Peyton Callens, who fired a career-best 6-under 66. Callens, who is entered this week as an individual, made the biggest move of the day jumping 52 spots into a tie for ninth place. His round of 66 was the second-best individual round of the day. He collected eight birdies throughout his round, four on each side of the course.
