Nevada Football 2018: What to know before you go

The wait is over -- it's football season!

As the 2018 Nevada football season kicks off on Friday night with the Wolf Pack taking on Portland State at 6 p.m. at Mackay Stadium, here are a number of helpful reminders for fans heading to campus for all of the exciting action at Mackay Stadium this season.

Forecasts for Friday evening call for great conditions – sunny and clear with temperatures in the low 80s at kickoff and light winds. The athletics department will have water stations available near the north and south end zone areas, and fans are allowed to bring one disposable sealed bottle of water, no bigger than 20 ounces, into the stadium.

Getting to/from the stadium and parking
As classes are in session on Friday, fans are asked to take a few extra minutes in their planning for transit to the University campus.

Most of the purchased tailgate locations on campus as well as reserved parking lots for the football game are available beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday.

In partnership with University police and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a new post-game traffic protocol will be in effect this season beginning on Friday.

All major intersections near the stadium, including Virginia Street from 15th Street north McCarran Boulevard, and Evans Avenue, from Stadium Way to McCarran, will be staffed with a combination of University police, Reno police and CERT members. Traffic signals on Virginia Street south of 15th Street will have extended timing cycles.

New in 2018: University police and CERT members will focus additional efforts at major intersections and junctions within the campus interior. This focus will allow personnel to assist fans in the direction the most favorable traffic flow and allow officials to adjust traffic based on flow to major traffic arteries around campus.

Tickets
Season tickets are still the best deal to catch all of the action at Mackay Stadium this season. Tickets begin at just $99 a seat with price points and amenities for all Wolf Pack fans. Limited availability premium seating remains in the west-side skyboxes, loge boxes and club seating.

New in 2018: The Wolf Pack's Will Call window has moved from Legacy Hall to the new ticket office as part of Jensen Plaza on the north end of Mackay Stadium. That location will open three hours before kickoff each home game. There are two places to buy tickets on gamedays on campus: The new ticket office in Jensen Plaza on the north end of the stadium, and at the Lawlor Events Center ticket office, using the entrance at 15th and Virginia Street. The previous ticket office in Legacy Hall is no longer in use.

Nevada is offering three different three-game mini-plans this year, allowing fans to pick the three games that best work for them. Mini-plans start as low as $42 for three games at Mackay Stadium this year.

Single-game tickets are available for as low as $17 with discounts available for seniors, youths and group packages.

The Pup Club, presented by Scheels, is the official kids club for the Nevada Wolf Pack and is open to all children eighth grade and under. A Pup Club membership is only $55 and includes a t-shirt, free admission to football games and many other sporting events on campus and much more.

The University also offers discounts for University faculty and staff, Washoe County School District employees and state, county and city employees. Call the ticket office – (775) 348-7225 – and ask for more information about the Employee Pack Pass.

Mackay Stadium Experience
Jensen Plaza, the new entrance to the north end of the stadium, is in its final phase of construction and should be open to the public in time for the second home game of the year, against Oregon State on Sept. 15.

The Wolf Pack will have its official merchandising partner, Silver and Blue Outfitters, on site at Mackay Stadium with two locations and the best new Wolf Pack products.

A full concessions lineup is available throughout the stadium with additional offerings from Famous Dave's BBQ, Mr. Pops kettle corn and sweets, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Port of Subs.

New in 2018: Nevada is instituting a new clear bag policy for football games at Mackay Stadium this year. The Wolf Pack will focus its efforts on educating fans of this new policy during the season opener on Friday. In an effort to provide a safer environment for the public, and to expedite entry into the venue, Nevada's new policy does clarify and limit the size and type of bag allowed for Nevada football games. The complete policy is available at Nevada WolfPack.com Approved bags include:
