RENO, Nev. – The Nevada men's golf team is off to Norman, Okla. to compete in the NCAA Norman Regional, which begins this Monday.
 
"I'm so excited for our team to have the opportunity to extend our season and compete in regionals," said head coach Jacob Wilner. "It's a tough field this week but our guys have worked extremely hard all year for this moment. I can't wait to get out there and see what we can do."
 
The three-day event begins Monday, May 14 with the first round of 18 holes from Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman. The course will play long at 7,452 yards with par set at 72. In order for the Wolf Pack to advance to the NCAA Championship, it must finish in the top five in the 14-team field. If Nevada can advance to the championship, it would be just the fourth NCAA Championship appearance by the program in its history and its first since 2006.
 
The Pack will have to play some of its best golf of the year to finish in the top five as it faces a field scattered with top 25 programs, including regionals host defending national champions Oklahoma. The Sooners are the highest ranked team in the field at No. 3 but the Pack must also go up against No. 10 Auburn, No. 15 Arkansas and No. 22 Florida State. There will be some familiarity in the field though as fellow Mountain West member San Diego State will join the Pack in Norman.
 
As for who will represent Nevada in Norman, Wilner will send the same five individuals that took third place in the Mountain West Championship a couple of weeks ago. Led by senior Grant Booth, this unit of five has combined for a scoring average of 72.7 this season. Booth leads the team in both scoring average (70.2) and birdies (130) and has earned runner-up finishes in his last two events. Along with Booth, Wilner will also send fellow senior Corey Eddings, sophomores Sam Harned and Sam Meek and freshman Joey Vrzich.
