Meek shoots 64 as Pack concludes The Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team concluded its run at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, on Saturday with a tie for 12th place.

"This was a great event for our team," said head coach Jacob Wilner. "We are building confidence and playing our best golf at the right time."

The Wolf Pack finished the event at 11-over par, tying with SMU for 12th in the 25-team field. Nevada carded its second best team round of the tournament on Saturday with a 2-over round of 286. The Pack did finish six spots ahead of No. 16 USC on the team leaderboard. No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 11 California duked it out down the stretch for the team win as the Sooners topped the Golden Bears by three strokes at 24-under par.

Newcomer Sam Meek, playing in just his second event as a member of the Wolf Pack, fired an impressive 7-under par round of 64 on Saturday. Meek's 64 is a career low as a member of the Pack and is also tied for the second-lowest individual round in program history. Meek was as perfect as you can be on the front nine, shooting a 29 by way of five birdies and an eagle on the par 5 fourth. His 7-under round helped him jump 71 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 32nd place at 1-over par.

Also earning a tie for 32nd place was senior Grant Booth, who shot a 1-over 73 for his final round. Booth had a round front nine but turned his round around on the back side, making birdie on two of his final three holes. Sophomore Sam Harned matched his second round score of 74 on Saturday, finishing the event at 3-over par and in a tie for 42nd. Senior Kaleb Gorbahn and freshman Joey Vrzich rounded out the list of Pack golfers, tying for 108th and 116th, respectively, in the 135-player field.

Norman Xiong of Oregon won the individual side of competition pretty comfortably. Xiong finished the event at 15-under par, six shots ahead of second place.

Nevada will co-host and compete in the El Macero Classic April 13-15 at El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif. to close out the regular season.
