Men’s golf continues run at The Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team continued its run at The Goodwin, completing the second round of play on Friday.

The Wolf Pack dropped seven positions on the team leaderboard after it struggled on Friday, finishing at 10-over par. With one round remaining, Nevada will take the 14th spot in the 25-team field into Saturday's final round. The heavy hitters proved why they are ranked as high as they are, making moves on day two. No. 9 Oklahoma combined for a team score of 15-under par on Friday and now sits at 20-under for the event. The Sooners lead No. 11 California by five strokes and No. 31 Oregon by 10.

Senior Grant Booth led the way for Nevada on day two as the only Pack player to post a round under par. Booth had an up and down kind of day, grinding out a 1-under round of 70 with five birdies and four bogeys. After an even round yesterday, Booth's Friday performance helped him jump eight spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 18th with one round remaining.

Thursday's low scorer for the Pack, sophomore Sam Harned, did not match his 3-under 68 from yesterday but turned in a respectable round of 74 on Friday. He enters the third round tied for 26th. Newcomer Sam Meek made the biggest improvement for the Pack, going from a first round 78 to a second round 72, jumping him into a tie for 105th.

Senior Kaleb Gorbahn and freshman Joey Vrzich round out the list of Wolf Pack golfers. Gorbahn made a few birdies during his round but a few big numbers caused him to turn in a round of 78. Vrzich struggled to find the red numbers during his round, finishing with a round of 81. Gorbahn enters the final round tied for 105th while Vrzich is tied for 119th in the 135-player field.

The nation's No. 14 ranked individual, Norman Xiong of Oregon, has posted back-to-back rounds of 65 to stake claim to the individual lead. Xiong leads at 12-under par, four strokes ahead of Jeffry Swegle of Stanford.

Nevada will conclude its run at The Goodwin with the final round of play on Saturday. Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
