Nevada places third at Jackrabbit Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Following one of its best events of the season, the Nevada men's golf placed third at the Jackrabbit Invitational and had three individuals finish in the top 10.

"Great event for our guys," said head coach Jacob Wilner. "We hung in there with two national championship caliber teams."

The Wolf Pack combined for a three-day team score of 842, its second lowest of the season and seventh lowest in program history. Nevada's third place finish at the event is its best of the season and placed the Wolf Pack just behind tournament winner No. 37 UNLV and No. 16 UCLA. Through the three rounds, the Pack finished at 22-under par, eight strokes behind the Bruins and 13 shots behind the Rebels but 15 strokes ahead of fourth place UC Santa Barbara. Nevada was one of four of the 15 teams to finish under par and led the field with 81 birdies.

Nevada placed three individuals inside the top 10 and was led by senior Grant Booth. Booth, who entered the week as the No. 85 player in the nation, earned a fourth place finish at 11-under par, four shots behind individual medalist Devon Bling of UCLA. All three of his rounds came in under par, including a 2-under 70 on the final day, and he led the field with 22 birdies for the week. In seven events this season, Booth has finished in the top 20 in all of them and has earned four top 10s.

Newcomer Sam Meek, who was playing in his first event as a member of the Wolf Pack, notched a tie for sixth place after a 5-under par performance. Meek carded rounds of 72, 69 and 70 during his run and made an eagle on the par 5 14th during his final round. There were a lot of 70s flying around today as freshman Joey Vrzich also recorded a round of 70 during his final round. Vrzich finished the even at 4-under par and tied for 10th place, the best finish of his rookie season thus far. All five members of the Wolf Pack lineup placed inside the top 25 as seniors Kaleb Gorbahn and Corey Eddings earned ties for 21st and 25th, respectively, in the 88-player field.

Nevada will return to action at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, March 29-31 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif.
