PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team posted its best round of the tournament to finish 15
th at the Saint Mary's Invitational and conclude the fall season.
The 36
th-ranked Wolf Pack used its best team round of the tournament, a 291 (7-over), to jump one spot on the leaderboard to finish in 15
th in the 18-team field. Nevada finished ahead of No. 49 Central Florida, Washington State and Toledo. No. 10 USC used a 19-under par day to charge ahead three spots and claim the team title over No. 19 BYU.
Junior
Stephen Osborne was the highest finishing member of the Wolf Pack, earning a tie for 51
st place in the 104-player field. Osborne finished the tournament at 8-over par with his best round, a 1-over 72 coming in the opening 18 holes. After a couple of tough rounds for sophomore
Joey Vrzich, he rebounded on Wednesday with a 1-under 70, the only under par round of the week for the Pack. He jumped 26 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 60
th. Nevada had three of its five players finish in a tie for 63
rd at 12-over in juniors
Sam Harned,
Sam Meek and
Tony Gil. Meek posted the best final round of the three, carding a 1-over 72.
Peter Kuest of BYU led wire-to-wire to claim the individual crown. Kuest finished the event at 13-under par, five shots ahead of Issei Tanabe of USC.
Nevada will return to the course March 3 for the Dual in the Desert, a dual match against SMU at The Hideaway Golf Course in La Quinta, Calif.
