ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Nevada men's golf team completed its first two rounds of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Friday and are in 12
th place after 36 holes.
The Wolf Pack faced a tough field, and a tough course, in this tournament with UNLV ranked in the top 15 and five other teams receiving votes in the top 25 poll. Nevada posted a solid score in the first round of the day with a 294 (+6), which was one of the top rounds of the early session. The Pack struggled to find its game though in round two, finishing with a 308.
To show the tough playing conditions, tournament leader UNLV is the only team in the field of 17 under par and is just 1-under entering Saturday's final round. The Rebels leads second place Washington by six shots.
Senior
Grant Booth led the team and posted a solid day on the course through tough conditions and is inside the top 20 in the 100-player field. Booth carded a 1-over 73 in the morning and a 2-over 74 in the afternoon, making him just 3-over par for the tournament. Booth recorded six birdies on the day, including four during his second round.
Newcomer
Sam Harned, playing in just his second collegiate event, tied with Booth for the low Wolf Pack round of the day in the opening 18 holes with a 1-over 73. He made three birdies in the round and really only got into trouble with a double bogey on No. 9. He struggled in round two though, finishing with a 77. He and senior
Kaleb Gorbahn are tied at 6-over for the tournament in a tie for 39
th place. Gorbahn shot rounds of 74 and 76 on Friday, and played better in round two. A triple bogey on No. 14 added a few extra strokes to his score.
Freshman
Joey Vrzich recorded a solid round of 74 during his morning session, but couldn't get it going in the afternoon, carding an 81. He enters the final round tied for 72
nd. Senior
Corey Eddings will look to bounce back on Saturday after shooting rounds of 77 and 82 on Friday.
