Nevada in the hunt at Badger Invite after round one

Grant Booth tied for third place individually.

Round One Results

MADISON, Wis.
– After the opening round of the Badger Invite, hosted at University Ridge Golf Course, the Nevada men's golf team is tied for second place.

The Wolf Pack is one of three teams in the field of 15 to be under par after 18 holes of play. Nevada combined for a team score of 285, which is good for 3-under par, and is tied with tournament host Wisconsin for second. Nevada placed second in this event a year ago. Texas A&M dominated the day and sits at 12-under par after the opening round. Four of the Aggies five players are under par.

Picking up right where he left off last season is senior Grant Booth, who led the team on day one. Booth carded a 3-under par round of 69 and enters the second round tied for third in the 102-player field. He had a near perfect day on the course, making two birdies on both the front and back nine. A bogey on No. 18 was his only blemish of the day. Booth is in a three-way tie for third and trails Jordan Hahn of Wisconsin for second by two shots and Chandler Phillips of Texas A&M for the individual lead by three strokes.

Fellow senior Kaleb Gorbahn is also in the hunt as he sits inside the top 10. Gorbahn fired a 1-under 71 for his first outing of the new season. He struggled on the front nine, making three bogeys, put birdied four of six holes during the middle stretch of the back nine. The Pack's other senior, Corey Eddings, also had a solid first round after he managed an even par 72 and is in the top 20. After making bogey on three consecutive holes on the back nine, Eddings turned it around and went birdie, birdie, birdie on No. 14, 15 and 16 to bring his round back even.

After redshirting last season, Jooho Lee saw his first piece of tournament action since April of 2016 on Sunday. Lee is currently tied for 29th place after carding a 1-over round of 73. A pair of newcomers round out the list of Pack golfers as freshman Joey Vrzich recorded a 2-over 74 and junior Sam Harned, playing as an individual, shot an 82.

Nevada continues the Badger Invite with the second round of action on Monday. Live scoring for the entire tournament is available on BirdieFire.com.
