Pack earns top 10 finish to end fall season

Booth posts fifth top 20 finish of the fall season.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team earned an eighth place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational to close out its fall season.

"Grant had a very consistent fall semester, placing inside the top 20 in all five of our events and is ranked in the top 100 in the nation," said head coach Jacob Wilner. "As a team we had a very good fall campaign and the rankings should put us in a position to make a run at regionals. We're beating the teams we should beat week after week and are also finishing ahead of teams ranked above us. I'm very proud of the work this group has done."

The Wolf Pack shot an even par round on Wednesday of 284 to stay put in eighth place in the tough 18-team field. Nevada finished the tournament at 6-over par, one shot better than No. 20 Santa Clara and four shots better than No. 46 Arizona. No. 33 USC won the event at 28-under par, six strokes higher than No. 13 Stanford.

As Coach Wilner eluded to, senior Grant Booth closed out his fall season with his fifth top 20 finish, tying for 18th today. For his final round he carded an even par 71 and finished his round with 11 straight pars. Through his five events of the fall, Booth posted a scoring average of 70.4, which is on pace to set the single season scoring average record.

Freshman Joey Vrzich recorded the low Wolf Pack round of the day, tying his season low of 69. His 2-under round of 69 was six shots better than his second round score and moved him up eight spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 36th in the 100-player field. Seniors Corey Eddings and Kaleb Gorbahn each turned in 1-over rounds of 72 for their final rounds and Gorbahn made his second eagle of the tournament on No. 13. Eddings tied for 52nd, while Gorbahn tied for 55th. Sophomore Sam Harned struggled in his final round, posting an 80 to tie for 73rd.

Justin Suh of USC won the individual title at 13-under par, five shots better than three runner-up finishers.

Nevada will begin its spring season Feb. 26-27 at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
