PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team is situated in the middle of the leaderboard following day one of the Saint Mary's Invitational from Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
The Wolf Pack carded a team score of 293 (+9) on Monday and sit in a tie for ninth place in the 18-team field. Facing one of the toughest fields of the season, Nevada is tied with No. 20 Santa Clara for ninth. Just three of the 18 teams produced under par scores in the opening round as San Francisco leads at 3-under by two strokes over No. 13 Stanford and No. 21 Colorado State.
Freshman
Joey Vrzich led the Wolf Pack on day one as he carded an even par round of 71. He found himself 3-over par through his first six holes but rattled off birdies on four of his next five holes and finished his round making six straight pars. Vrzich enters round two tied for 16
th place in the 100-player field.
Nevada had two players shoot identical scores of 73 on Monday as senior
Grant Booth and sophomore
Sam Harned both sit tied for 32
nd. Booth made two birdies during his round while Harned made four. Seniors
Kaleb Gorbahn and
Corey Eddings also posted identical scores as they shot rounds of 76 and are tied for 55
th place. Neither Gorbahn or Eddings could find many birdies out there, but Gorbahn did manage to make eagle on the par 5 ninth.
There are four players, Justin Suh of USC, Patrick Fishburn of BYU, Brad Reeves of Arizona, and Parathakorn Suyasri of Colorado State, who are all tied atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under par. They have a one shot advantage over second place.
