STOCKTON, Calif. – Led by senior
Grant Booth, the Nevada men's golf team placed fourth at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, hosted at the Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
The Wolf Pack was even on the day, carding a team score of 288 to finish at 11-under par for the tournament, five shots behind Saint Mary's for third. Nevada's three-round team score of 853 was its second lowest of the season. The Pack also led the entire 19-team field in birdies for the week with 62 and ranked third in par 5 scoring. No. 22 Santa Clara shot 16-under par during the final round to finish 30-under and win the event by four shots over No. 29 BYU.
Booth posted one of the best performances of his collegiate career with a third place finish among 112 individuals. With rounds of 70, 68 and 68 Booth finished the event at 10-under par, just three shots behind the individual winner Patrick Fishburn of BYU. Both his third place finish and 10-under par score are season bests. Booth recorded five birdies during his final round, to just one bogey, and totaled 15 birdies during the week, third-most in the field.
Seniors
Kaleb Gorbahn and
Corey Eddings both notched a tie for 42
nd place at 2-over par overall. Gorbahn carded a 1-over par 73 on Saturday, finishing strong on the back nine with three birdies and no bogeys during that stretch. Eddings shot a 3-over 75 for his final round but didn't play poorly. Eddings made a couple of mistakes on holes 4 and 18 but also managed 16 pars during his round.
Sophomore
Sam Harned fired the second-lowest Wolf Pack round of the day with an even par round of 72, making four birdies and four bogeys. Harned collected a tie for 47
th place. Freshman
Joey Vrzich's 3-over 75 on Saturday got him a tie for 51
st place. Redshirt junior
Jooho Lee tied for 91
st place.
Nevada has one more fall tournament remaining at the Saint Mary's Invitational Nov. 6-8 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
