Solid first day for Nevada at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

Gorbahn led the team with seven birdies during his round.

STOCKTON, Calif. – Following the first round of action at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, the Nevada men's golf team is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the 19-team field.

The Wolf Pack recorded one of its best team scores of the fall season as it combined for a total of 283, good for 5-under par. The team is in a three-way tie for fourth place along with Grand Canyon and Long Beach State. Each of those teams trail tournament leader Santa Clara by four strokes. Nevada is the highest ranking Mountain West team in the field as well, ahead of San Jose State, Fresno State and Boise State.

Individually the Wolf Pack was led by freshman Joey Vrzich, who tied his collegiate career low with a 3-under round of 69 on Thursday. Vrzich compiled a strong run during the middle portion of his round, shooting 6-under from holes 6-16. He ranked second on the team with six birdies during his round and is tied for eighth heading into round two. At 3-under Vrzich trails individual leader Filip Lundell of Grand Canyon by four shots with 36 holes remaining.

Seniors Grant Booth and Kaleb Gorbahn are each one shot behind Vrzich after firing 2-under rounds of 70. Booth had an overall balanced day on the course, committing no worse than bogey on his scorecard and added four birdies. Gorbahn was the team leader in birdies as he registered seven during his round, including three on his last four holes. Booth and Gorbahn enter Friday's second round tied for 17th in the 111-player field.

Fellow senior Corey Eddings started his round well by making eight pars on the front nine, but ran into some trouble on the back side. Eddings still turned in a respectable score of a 2-over 74 and is tied for 62nd place. Sophomore Sam Harned committed a triple bogey on No. 9 which set his round back a few strokes after the front nine. Harned picked it up on the back side however and managed a 5-over round of 77 today. Redshirt junior Jooho Lee is also in the mix, entered as an individual. Lee enters Friday tied for 104th place after a round of 80 to start his run.

Nevada continues its run at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Friday with the second round. Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
