Palm Desert, Calif. - Nevada Women's Golf kicked off competition at the 2026 Mountain Classic Match Play, Monday, beating Gonzaga 3-2.
Gabby Kano clinched the game against Gonzaga late in the day on Monday, defeating Gonzaga's Mariko Yonemure 3&2, parring the 16th to close out the match. Kano was one-over par for the match making two birdies, and was only down in the match for one hole.Â
Anna Shultse and
Marina Nonaka were the other two winners for the Pack, with Nonaka fighting back from two down with seven to play, birdieing two of the last three holes to close out the match. Shultse played the most solid golf of the Pack in the first round, only dropping one shot on the day, trailing for just two holes, and making four birdies, two of them coming in the final four holes to close out the match one up. Shultse's opponent didn't drop a shot all day, making her vital win for the Pack even more impressive.Â
Hannah Stouder fought valiantly against Gonzaga's Taylor Mularski, trailing by three early, fighting back to all square through 16, but eventually falling two down. Coco Kolbas also fought in a tough game against Grace Lee, getting one up early, making two birdies in the first 15 holes, but was outlasted and finished the day losing 2&1.Â
The Pack will return to action tomorrow for the semi-finals against Utah Valley.
