Albuquerque, N.M. - Pentathlon kicked off Day One of the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships,
The day kicked off with 60m Hurdles, Haas smashed her personal record with a time of 8.51s, giving her the 4th fastest time in school history and placing her 1st after event one. Following suit was Paez-Rueda, who also broke her personal record, running an 8.86s to place her in 7th. Rounding out the group were
Hazel Gaspaire (9.32s) in 12th, and
Anne Schuch (10.01s) in 17th.
Next up for the Pack Pentathletes was high jump.
Hazel Gaspaire led the way for the Pack, placing 2nd with a jump of 1.67m. The three next best jumpers for the Pack all recorded personal records. Valeria Paez-Rueda placed in 4th with a career best 1.64m,
Johanna Haas placed 6th with a personal best 1.58m and
Anne Schuch placed 11th with a personal record 1.55m.
Shot Put was next for the athletes in the pentathlon, and
Johanna Haas continued her streak of personal records, making it three from three in the first three events of the pentathlon. 12.95m was the magic number for Haas, besting her PR by more than 25cm, placing in 2nd. Next best was
Anne Schuch, throwing 11.86m, placing 6th then Valeria Paez-Rueda, throwing 11.59m, placing 7th. Rounding out the Pack was
Hazel Gaspaire, who placed 16th with a throw of 8.99m.
Valeria Paez-Rueda led the way for the Pack in the Long Jump, setting a personal record of 5.41m, placing 5th. Next best was
Anne Schuch with a jump of 5.31m, placing 7th. Not far behind was
Hazel Gaspaire, placing 10th with a jump of 5.21m. Rounding out the Pack was
Johanna Haas in 17th (4.02m).
Concluding the Pentathlon was the 800m, where
Johanna Haas finished strong, placing 6th,
Anne Schuch (2:30.88) and Valeria Paez-Rueda (2:31.01) finished in 8th and 9th.
Hazel Gaspaire did not finish.
Paez-Rueda placed 4th in the Pentathlon, with a PR point total of 3,710,
Johanna Haas placed 8th with a total of 3,495,
Anne Schuch finished in 13th with a point total of 3,367 and
Hazel Gaspaire finished in 16th at 2,743 points.
The women's distance medley relay finished off the day for the Wolf Pack with
Natalia Martino,
Caitlynn Holt,
Kylee Denver and
Claire Nelson competing for Nevada. They ran a 12:02.17 to place in 6th.
The Wolf Pack will return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. PT, starting the day off with Long Jump.
