RENO, Nev. – Nevada men's and women's cross country are set to host and compete at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships Friday, Nov. 15 at home in Reno, Nevada, at Washoe Golf Course.
The meet will begin with the women's 6K at 11 a.m. (PT), followed by the men's 10K race scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (PT). Live results for the race will be available and can be accessed HERE
Of the 17 men's scoring teams, six are nationally ranked, including first-place BYU and sixth-place New Mexico. Mountain West foes Colorado State and Wyoming come in at 23rd and 26th respectively. On the women's side, out of the 18 scoring teams, five are nationally ranked. BYU also hold the number one spot in the women's national rankings, NAU are in fourth. Also nationally ranked, Mountain West rival New Mexico ranks 10th.
The championship is the only opportunity for athletes to secure a spot in the NCAA National Championships, hosted by Wisconsin in Madison. The top two teams in each region secure automatic bids to the championship. Individually, the first four regional finishers that do not belong to an automatic qualifying team also secure an auto-bid to the championships. The rest of the qualifying spots will rely on the NCAA D1 Cross Country Subcommittee.
The Pack wrapped up action at the 2024 Mountain West Cross Country Championships two weeks ago in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Both Wolf Pack men's and women's teams came away with a seventh-place overall team finish. Daniel Sayo finished 25th and Claire Nelson worked her way into the top-40 and held her spot to place 34th.
Last season, the championship was hosted by Texas Tech at the Chaparral Ridge Cross Country course. The men finished 15th, while the women finished 17th ahead of strong teams Montana and Idaho State. Nevada's Daniel Sayo collected a top-50 finish (44th) and Ashley Boone finished in 80th, the highest placement for either squad.
This meet marks the first time in school and program history that the Nevada Wolf Pack has hosted an NCAA Regional. Washoe Golf Course, less than 15 minutes away from campus, will host the meet and the Wolf Pack runners's aim to thrive off the home support this Friday.
