Fresno, Calif. - Nevada's men and women cross country programs are set to compete at the Mountain West Championships Friday, October 31 hosted by Fresno State, at Woodward Park in Fresno, California. This meet will mark only the second time Fresno State has hosted the championship, the last time being in 2014.
The meet will kick off with the Men's 8K race at 9:00 a.m. (PT) followed by the Women's 6K race scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. (PT). Both races will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
The No. 3 nationally ranked New Mexico Lobos men's team and the No. 9 nationally ranked Lobos women's team were selected as the conference favorites heading into the postseason. Of the teams competing in the women's field, the Lobos are the only team nationally ranked, while on the men's side the Lobos are joined by No. 23 Air Force. The Pack were picked to finish eighth on the men's side and seventh on the women's.
The Pack's last outing came just two weeks ago at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, California, where the men finished 6th and the women finished 5th, a great preparation for the MW Championships.
Austin Key has led the way for the Pack this season, rising to #5 on the Wolf Pack all-time list with an 8k time of 24:16.5. On the Women's side,
Natalia Martino holds the best time for the Pack in the 6k, with a time of 21:10.0.
Last season the men finished seventh overall at the Mountain West Championships, the women also finished seventh, ahead of rival UNLV, earning the Nevada Wolf Pack three points in the Silver State Series.
