ERIN, Wis. - The Nevada Men's Golf team began the 2023-24 season in strong fashion on Sunday, as the team completed the day tied for sixth in the team standings after carding a combined score of 298 (+10).
Senior Tom Patterson led the way individually for the Pack, matching the second-best single round score of his career by carding a 71 (-1) to open the event. Patterson had an impressive round, parring 17 holes and earning one birdie. Patterson is tied for sixth on the leaderboard entering tomorrow's second round.
Newcomer Supakit (Oak) Seelanagae had a solid debut for the Pack, finishing the day at +2, which placed him in a tie for 17th overall. Seelanagae double bogeyed the first hole before tallying three birdies and four pars to close out the front nine. He proceeded to pick up six pars and three bogeys on the back nine to complete the day with a 74.
Fellow newcomer Liam Gobin also had a quality outing in his first round competing for the Pack, as the Junior shot 75 (+3) and will enter the second round tied for 28th. Gobin was +6 entering the 16th hole; however, he had an exceptional end to his day, recording a birdie on each of the three final holes.
Keita Okada finished fourth in the Wolf Pack lineup and tied for 56th overall after carding a 78 (+6) throughout the first round, while Alex Maxwell rounded out the lineup, shooting an 81 (+9) to finish tied for 67th.
Competing as an individual participant, freshman Jonathan Kim carded a 79 (+7) in his first collegiate round, placing him in a tie for 60th after 18 holes of play.
Nevada will return to the course tomorrow morning for the second round of the Marquette Intercollegiate, with tee times beginning at 7 a.m.
