Pack Takes Ninth at Mountain West Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Nevada Men's Golf team concluded play at the Mountain West Championships Sunday, closing out the event by carding their best round of the tournament and finishing in ninth place. 

The Pack recorded a combined score of 289 (+1) in the third and final round, bringing their 54-hole team score to 873 (+9).

Alex Maxwell carded his best round of the tournament, finishing the day at one shot below par (71). The freshman completed the event tied for 34th overall with a three-round score of 217 (+1).

Maxwell was exceptional on the front nine, tallying three birdies and six pars, before picking up five pars, three bogeys, and one birdie on the back nine to finish the round below par. 

Keita Okada shot 74 (+2) across the final set of 18 holes, as he finished tied with Maxwell on the final leaderboard in 34th place with a 54-hole score of 217 (+1). Okada accumulated 11 pars and three birdies in the final round.

Like Maxwell, Peyton Callens also had his best round of the tournament on Sunday, recording a 71 (-1) in the third round. Callens finished the tournament tied for 38th on the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 218 (+2). Callens posted 11 pars, four birdies, and three bogeys in the third round.

Tom Patterson closed out tournament play by carding a 74 (+2), placing him in a tie for 43rd with a combined score of 223 (+7). Patterson finished the day with 12 pars and two birdies.

Trey Davis rounded out the Nevada lineup, finishing in 49th place after shooting 73 (+1) in the final round. Davis tallied 13 pars and three birdies throughout the final 18 holes.

San Diego State set a new record for best 54-hole score to win the team championship (804), and Aztec golfer Dylan Oyama won the individual title in a playoff against Colorado State's Christopher Bleier after the pair set a new record for best individual 54-hole score (197).
