Okada in Contention After Outstanding First Round at Mountain West Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - Keita Okada maintained his stellar play as of late, opening the Mountain West Championships by carding a 68 (-4) across the first 18 holes, placing him in a tie for seventh place on the individual leaderboard after the first day of competition.

As a team, Nevada Men's Golf completed the first round in 10th place after recording a combined score of 292 (+4).

Okada was exceptional throughout the entire round. The junior started off the day with a par on the 1st hole before earning an eagle on the par-5 2nd hole. He proceeded to par holes 3-7, before tallying a birdie on the par-5 8th hole.

After parring the 9th hole, Okada picked up his second eagle of the round on the par-5 10th hole. He had one birdie, two bogeys, and five pars over the final eight holes, as he finished the day four shots below par.

Okada will have the opportunity to move up the leaderboard in the second round, as he sits just one stroke outside of the top-five and two strokes outside of first.

Freshman Alex Maxwell finished second in the Wolf Pack lineup and tied for 34th overall after carding a 73 (+1) in the opening round. Maxwell tallied nine pars and five birdies throughout the first set of 18 holes.

Peyton Callens shot 74 (+2) in the opening round, placing him in a tie for 40th overall. The fifth-year senior had 14 pars and one eagle on the day.

Junior Tom Patterson concluded the day tied for 49th on the individual leaderboard after recording an opening round score of 77 (+5). Patterson had seven birdies on the day and will aim to have a more consistent round tomorrow.

Trey Davis rounded out the Nevada lineup, carding an 80 (+8) to finish the first round in 55th place.

The Pack will return to the course for the second-round tomorrow morning, as they are scheduled to begin play at 7am. Davis is slated to tee off first, with subsequent tee times set for every eight minutes following.
