Nevada Wraps up Play at John A. Burns Intercollegiate

LIHUE, Hawai'i – Nevada Men's Golf closed out play at the historical John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Friday evening, claiming a 17th–place finish on the final leaderboard. 

The Pack finished out the day by matching their previous best round of the season in the final round of the event which was moved up to Friday afternoon due to potential weather conditions on Saturday.   

Nevada began the day by resuming the second round of tournament play, picking up where they left off when competition ended on Thursday evening. 

The Pack completed the second round with a team score of 292 (+4), and they entered the third and final round in a tie for 17th place. Keita Okada had the best individual score in the second round, carding an even-par 72. 

Trey Davis and Tom Patterson each recorded a 73 (+1) in the second round, while Peyton Callens shot a 74 (+2) and Alex Maxwell finished with a score of 76 (+4). 

Nevada elevated their play in the final round, led by an outstanding effort from Davis. The fifth-year senior carded a 68 (-4) to move up over 30 spots on the leaderboard over the final 18 holes. Davis had five birdies and 12 pars in the third round. He finished the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in a tie for 45th after shooting a combined score of 214 (-2). 

Maxwell also had an exceptional end to the event, recording a 69 (-3) in the final round to finish off an impressive collegiate debut. Maxwell picked up an eagle, two birdies, and 14 pars over the final 18 holes. He completed the tournament in a tie for 38th with a combined score of 213 (-3). 

Callens also finished under par in the final round, carding a 71 to finish in a tie for 44th on the final leaderboard after shooting a combined 214 (-2). He had three birdies and 13 pars throughout the third round. 

Okada and Patterson each shot an even-par 72 in the final round, as all five golfers for the Pack shot par or better over the final 18 holes of play. 

Okada had four birdies and 10 pars in the third round, and he finished the tournament in a tie for 93rd with an overall score of 220 (+4). 

Patterson recorded four birdies and nine pars throughout the final 18 holes, and he finished the event in a tie for 112th after shooting a three-round score of 226 (+10). 

BYU broke the tournament's previous 54-hole low score to win the team portion of the tournament while Sam Bennett (Texas A&M) and Sampson Zheng (California) finished as co-champions in the individual competition.

Nevada Men's Golf will return to the course on Monday, March 6, when they will travel to Chula Vista, California to compete at the Lamkin San Diego Classic.
