KAUI'I, Hawaii - The University of Nevada Men's Golf team wrapped up the first day of play at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Thursday evening, finishing the day in 20th place after completing their first round in the morning and playing part of their second round in the afternoon due to potential weather conditions over the weekend.
Freshman Alex Maxwell had an immaculate debut round for the Pack, carding an impressive 68 (-4) to finish tied for 12th after the first 18 holes. Maxwell earned an outstanding five birdies and 12 pars throughout the first round, while tallying just one bogey. Maxwell was +4 through 11 holes in the second round when play concluded, finishing the day tied for 52nd overall.
Peyton Callens also had an exceptional first round, shooting a 69 (-3) to finish in a tie for 14th on the leaderboard after the first 18 holes. Callens had four birdies and one eagle in the first round. He was four-over-par through 10 holes when the second round concluded, and he sits in a tie for 62nd overall entering tomorrow.
Trey Davis had a solid first 18 holes for the Pack, recording a 73 (+1) to finish tied for 57th overall after the first round. Davis picked up five birdies and nine pars over the course of the first 18 holes. He was three-over-par through 11 holes in the second round, and he enters competition tomorrow in a tie for 92nd on the leaderboard.
Keita Okada shot a 76 (+4) in the first round, earning two birdies and 10 pars throughout the round. Okada was tied for 100th after the first 18 holes. In the afternoon round, Okada finished one-over-par through 11 holes, as he is currently in a tie for 99th overall.
Tom Patterson recorded a score of 81 (+9) over the first 18 holes, picking up two birdies and six pars throughout the round. Patterson was having a solid second round when play concluded, as he was at even par through 10 holes. Patterson will be in a tie for 118th on the leaderboard when competition resumes tomorrow.
The Pack's impressive first-round score of 287 (-1) placed them in a tie for 10th place in the team standings after the first 18 holes; however, they slipped to 20th by the time the day ended.
Play will resume tomorrow morning at 10:30am Pacific Time, barring weather conditions.
