Nevada Set to Compete at Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada Men's Golf team is slated to continue the fall 2023 campaign with their third tournament of the season at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, hosted by Colorado at the Colorado National Golf Club. 

Tournament Info

The Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational is a two-day, 54-hole tournament beginning on Monday, October 2 with a shotgun start set for 7:15 a.m. Golfers will play two rounds on Monday, prior to closing out tournament play on Tuesday with one final 18-hole round.

The Field

In addition to Nevada and host school Colorado, the 17-team field consists of Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Denver, Grand Canyon, Mercer, Northern Colorado, Rice, San Francisco, UT-Arlington, Utah Valley, UTEP, Valparaiso, Washington State, and Wyoming. 

The Course

A seven-time winner of the "Best Golf Course on the Front Range," the championship layout at Colorado National Golf Club boasts a 7,567-yard, par-72 configuration that opened in 2003 originally as Vista Ridge Golf Club. The course spans over 232 acres of land with strategically placed bunkers and lakes, and only two holes that run alongside each other.  

Projected Lineup

Keita Okada

Okada will once again lead the Wolf Pack lineup at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. The senior is coming off a T48 finish at the Husky Invitational after completing the event at +4. Okada had a consistent outing for the Pack, carding rounds of 73-72-75.

Supakit (Oak) Seelanagae

Seelanagae has had a solid season thus far, and he is coming off a T58 finish at the Husky Invitational. Seelanagae completed the event at +7, and he had his best round of the tournament on the final day, carding an even-par 72 to close out the event. 

Alex Maxwell

After not having his best performance in the season-opening event, Maxwell bounced back to earn a T36 finish at +2 at the Husky Invitational. Maxwell had an exceptional opening round, matching the third-best single round score of his career with a 69 (-3). 

Jonathan Kim

The freshman returns to the Wolf Pack lineup for the second consecutive event. Kim is coming off a T64 finish at the Husky Invitational after completing the event at +9. Kim had a tremendous second round, recording the best single-round score of his young career with a 69 (-3).

Tom Patterson

Patterson had an impressive performance last time out at the Husky Invitational, finishing first in the Nevada lineup and tied for 22nd overall at -1. Patterson matched the second-best single round score of his career to open the event by recording a 68 (-4). After carding a 77 (+5) in the second round, Patterson had another solid outing in the final round, recording a two-under-par 70.
