SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After 18 holes at the Lamkin San Diego Classic, senior
Sam Harned leads the individual field at 5-under par. As a team the Wolf Pack sits in third place.
Nevada carded a 2-under par team score of 286 in Monday's opening round, putting the Wolf Pack in third place in the 20-team field. Heading into the second round Nevada trails tournament-leader San Diego by three shots and trails USC for second by just one shot. There were just five teams in the field that finished round one under par, as UCLA and Colorado joined in at 1-under on the day. In the team standings Nevada is currently ahead of three top 30 programs in No. 20 San Diego State, No. 26 Kansas and No. 22 New Mexico.
Harned saw a lot of red on his scorecard after his 18 holes on Monday. The California native collected eight birdies during his round en route to shooting a 5-under 67, a season-low. He posted four birdies on the front nine, and four on the back nine, including a string of four in a row on holes 14-17. Harned leads by one stroke heading into round two.
Elsewhere for the Pack junior
Trey Davis fired the other Nevada under par round on Monday as he shot a 1-under 71 and is currently tied for 17
th in the field of 112. Like Harned, Davis was able to avoid anything worse than bogey on his scorecard and recorded five birdies during his round, with four coming on his last nine holes. Newcomer
Michael Sarro, who is making his Wolf Pack debut this week, ranks third in the Pack lineup in a tie for 33
rd after carding a 1-over round of 73. He also did not post anything worse than bogey during his round and collected eight pars on the back nine. Senior
Brendan MacDougall heads into round two tied for 59
th after shooting a 3-over 75 on Monday and fellow senior
Sam Meek's 5-over 77 has him tied for 74
th place.
