PALO ALTO, Calif. – Senior
Sam Harned earned co-medalist honors at The Goodwin Saturday evening, the second win of his collegiate career.
Harned finished the tournament at 10-under par to share co-medalist honors with Blake Hathcoat of Saint Mary's. He posted all three of his rounds at par or better shooting a 63 in round one, even par 70 in round two and a 3-under 67 in Saturday's final round. He led the entire individual field with 16 birdies between his three rounds. Harned birdied the final hole of his round to slide into the lead, but a birdie from Hathcoat on No. 16 tied him with Harned for the shared medalist honors. It marked the second win of his career as he also won the 2019 season opener at the Badger Invitational.
As a team the Wolf Pack earned a sixth place finish in the field of 28 and finished two shots above No. 19 SMU. Nevada posted its best team score of the tournament on Saturday, carding a 3-under 277. The Pack finished the event at 8-over par as there were only two teams in the entire field to finish under par. No. 8 Arizona State won the team portion of the tournament at 15-under par, eight shots better than runner-up Stanford.
The Wolf Pack recorded three of its four counting scores at par or better, led by Harned's 67. Senior
Sam Meek carded a 1-under 69 in his final round to jump 40 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 68
th in the 146-player field. Meek finished the event at 10-over par overall. Fellow senior
Brendan MacDougall notched the second-best finish for the Wolf Pack with a tie for 33
rd after shooting an even par 70 on Saturday to finish the event at 3-over. Sophomore
Michael Sarro tied for 97
th place at 14-over par, but played his last two rounds at just 3-over. Junior
Trey Davis rounded out the Pack lineup with a tie for 116
th.
Nevada will return to competition April 10-12 at the El Macero Classic in Davis, Calif.
