TUCSON, Ariz. – The Nevada men's golf team wrapped up competition at the highly competitive National Invitational Tournament on Sunday, scoring a 13
th place finish.
The Wolf Pack finished the tournament at 6-over par after posting team scores of 288-292-290 over the weekend to place in 13
th in the 18-team field. Nevada finished ahead of Mountain West foes Wyoming and Colorado State and above a top 50 program in San Diego. The top three teams on the leaderboard were all nationally ranked in the top 10. No. 8 Oklahoma State won the event at 47-under par, besting the runner-up and No. 2 ranked team in the country Oklahoma by four shots. No. 6 Texas placed third at 31-under par. The top 10 teams this week all finished the tournament under par.
Individually for Nevada senior
Sam Harned and junior
Trey Davis both earned a top 50 finish as they each tied for 44
th place at even par overall. Davis put together the best finish for the Wolf Pack as he turned around his opening round 76 and posted a 1-under par 71 in round two and a 3-under 69 in the final round, the Pack's low round on Sunday. He jumped 27 spots on Sunday to grab a top 50 finish and collected 13 birdies in his last two rounds. Harned also finished at even par along with Davis, posting rounds of 70-74-72 for the weekend.
After opening the event with a team-best 4-under 68 on Saturday, senior
Sam Meek finished the tournament in a tie for 53
rd in the 104-player field. Meek was 1-over for the tournament and shot rounds of 68-76-73. Senior
Brendan MacDougall tied for 87
th place at 8-over par, and freshman
Tom Patterson tied for 92
nd at 12-over.
Garett Reband, the nation's 30
th-best player, won the tournament from an individual standpoint at 15-under par. He bested two players for the tournament title by two strokes.
Nevada will get right back at it this week as it competes at The Goodwin in Palo Alto, Calif. this Thursday through Saturday.
