Nevada is back on the road for tournament play in Portland

RENO, Nev. – Starting the season with a 4-2 record, after going 2-1 at the San Francisco tournament, the Pack heads to Portland, Oreg. to continue tournament play. Nevada picked up wins over San Francisco, 3-1 and Purdue Fort Wayne in straight sets, 3-0 and is looking to carry that momentum into this weekend.

The Pack will open the Les Schwab Rose City Showdown facing CSUN and host school, Portland State on Friday and Morgan State on Saturday. The match against the Matadors is set for 10 am and will be the first time the two teams have met since 2002. Following the match against CSUN, the Pack will take on the Vikings of Portland State at 7:30 pm.

On Saturday, Nevada plays Morgan State at 10:30 am. The only match that will be live stream for the weekend is the match between the Pack and the Vikings on Friday night. However, live stats are available for each at nevadawolfpack.com/volleyballls.

The Wolf Pack has maintained a strong defensive front through the first two weekends, combining for 61.0 total blocks in six matches. Freshman, Sydney Petersen has started making a name for herself; with 34 blocks in the first six matches, she leads the Mountain West and is second in blocks per set. Along with her conference rankings, she is sitting at 11th in the nation for total blocks. The Pack as a whole, sits at 29th in the nation for blocks.

Joining Petersen up front, but also an offensive threat is Brianna Souza. The redshirt junior had quite a weekend with starts in all three matches as a middle blocker but recorded a .348 hitting percentage after going 23-for-46 with 2.30 kills per set. Souza also tallied a service ace and has eight digs to go along with eight blocks, two of which were solo.
