Nevada volleyball secures sweep over Air Force

RENO, Nev. - Nevada volleyball returned home to host Air Force on Saturday afternoon, securing a thrilling sweep over the Falcons.

Nevada outperformed its opponent in all six major categories with 59 points to Air Force's 39, 41 kills compared to their 29, six aces over their three, 12 blocks compared to their seven, 37 assists to their 28 and 36 digs over their 31.

Mckaley Herr led the Pack in kills with 13, followed by Haylee Brown with 11 and Bella Snyder with nine. Snyder also had six blocks, while Audrey Jensen had five and Ceren Sert had four. Jensen led both teams in assists with 34.

The Pack came out strong from the beginning with their largest set victory of the match at 25-15. They opened it up with three straight points and continued to build. The Falcons never got in front and the Pack closed the opener with a 5-0 run that included two kills by Brown.

Both the second and third sets were close battles that went to extra points. Nevada began set two with a 4-0 run that saw two kills by Herr and one by Snyder.

The Pack held the lead through the first half before the Falcons tied it up at 11. There were three more ties before Nevada found itself trailing for the first time, 15-14.

Air Force went on a 6-0 run that created a bit of distance. Down by three and at set point for the Falcons, the Pack had a surge with five consecutive points that began with a kill by Brown and ended with one by Snyder to steal the second, 26-24.

Set three was just as thrilling, this time with Air Force going on a 4-0 run to open it up. Nevada was playing from behind through the first 10 points before tying it up. The teams continued to trade points back-and-forth through the entire third.

Into the end of the set, Nevada trailing by one, an error by Air Force, combined with an ace by Jensen and kill by Clarke, put the match away after securing the third, 28-26.

Nevada will ride the sweep to New Mexico, playing the Lobos on the road on October 30 at 5:30 PM.
