RENO, Nev. - The Nevada softball team is back on the road this week with a doubleheader against Cal set for Tuesday, April 23 with first pitch of the first game at 1 p.m. PT.
The Pack is coming off a roller coaster of a weekend after winning the opening game of the Colorado State series, 4-3 in walk off fashion thanks to
Kwynn Warner. However, the next two days the Rams out scored the Pack 18-1 and took the final two games and the series.
Nevada is looking to bounce back with this midweek and take it as a warm up for the Boise State series that is next weekend. However, the Cal Bears are not an east feat as they are currently 24-22 on the season and just took the final game against Oregon in Pac-12 play.
Both teams are hitting right at around the .290 mark with the Bears at a .292 but the Pack seem to be more patient at the plate, drawing 131 walks to their 103. Cal is offensively led by Lindsay Rood who is sporting a .407 clip and leading the team in just about every category. Rood had 15 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 23 RBI and 101 total bases. The only thing she does not lead in as far as hitting is home runs and that goes to Mikayla Coelho who has 25 RBIs and 63 bases.
The pitching for the Bears is split time between Kamalani Dung and Zoe Conley as they both have pitched 123.0 innings. Dung has the lower ERA with a 2.28 but Conley has more games started. The two combined for seven shutouts and 222 strikeouts of their 254 total. Alexandra Perez and Kourtney Shaw have each had time in the circle but only combine for 52.1 innings pitched.
Following this midweek matchup the Pack heads north to Boise, Idaho for a Mountain West three-game series with Boise State, April 26-28.
