RENO, Nev. — Nevada (36 -14, 16-5 MW) closed out Saturday's matchup in unforgettable fashion, taking down Fresno State (20-22, 9-12 MW) 7–4 on a walk‑off grand slam from Hannah Di Genova in the bottom of the seventh at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park.
Nevada struck early with a three‑run first inning, highlighted by
Rylie Haith's two‑out, two‑run home run. Fresno State chipped away with single runs in the first and fourth before tying the game 3–3 in the fifth, eventually taking advantage of eight hits off of
Talia Tretton to pull even.
The Wolf Pack bullpen held the line from there.
Hailey McLean entered in the fourth and delivered three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four to earn her ninth win of the season. Nevada's defense backed her with three double plays, including a key turn in the sixth to keep the game tied. McLean and the Pack defense combined to hold Fresno State scoreless over the final three innings, allowing Nevada to set the stage for Di Genova's dramatic finish.
With the score still even in the seventh, Nevada loaded the bases with one out for Di Genova, who delivered the decisive swing. The senior launched a towering shot to left for her 22nd home run of the season. Her walk‑off grand slam capped a seven‑run performance for the Pack.
Nevada and Fresno State close the series at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Hixson Softball Park, as Nevada honors its seniors.
