MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Nevada swim and dive teams are maintain the lead after having a standout second day of competition. The Pack scored 326.50 points to add to the 204 points scored on the first day giving them 530.50 total. This is 97.50 points better the 2018 Mountain West Championship through day two.
Caitlyn McHugh got things started in the finals for the 500-yard free where she clinched the bronze medal with a time of 4:47.95.
Lindsey Soule finished in 13th overall with a time of 4:52.26; both scored and added 41 points to the Nevada board.
Next up was the 200 IM which saw
Andressa Cholodovskis come home with the gold medal after being the runner-up last year. The junior finished with a time of 1:59.04, a NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time.
Donna dePolo also scored in the 200 IM when she finished ninth overall with a time of 2:01.95. Freshman
Julia Adamczyk came in 10th with a time of 2:01.86 and
Caitlyn Richardson finished 12th overall with a time of 2:02.43. The four combined for 84 points.
Josien Wijkhuijs was the top finisher for the Pack in the 50-free with a time of 22.82 and a fifth place finish. Seniors
Rebecca Murray and
Jamie Reynolds also scored with times of 22.91 and 23.96 respectively. Those three added 52.50 points to the team.
In the 3-meter dive
Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez took home the gold medal scoring 362.05 while
Victoria Rice placed sixth overall with 304.85. Rounding out the finals group was
Linnea Sorensen who finished eighth with 295.35 points.
Toma Shmitova just missed the finals but finished second in the consolation to give her tenth overall with a score of 295.25. The divers as a whole scored 95 points; add that to the 85 from last night and they have 183 of the 530.50 points.
Later in the evening, the 400-medley relay comprised of Reynolds, dePolo, Wijkhuijs and Murray, finished third overall with a time of 3:37.94 and added 54 points to the Pack.
Tomorrow the Championship continues with a loaded schedule beginning at 9:00 a.m. PT with the prelims for the 400 IM.
