Scarlett Ferris named Mountain West Swimmer of the Year

RENO, Nev. Nevada's Scarlett Ferris has been named the 2025-26 Mountain West Swimmer of the Year, capping one of the most decorated seasons in program and conference history.

Ferris earned the honor after a dominant year in the pool, highlighted by multiple conference records, three All-Mountain West performances, and a standout showing at the NCAA Championships. She was previously named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week on February 3, 2026, after setting both Mountain West and Nevada records in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.78.

At the Mountain West Championships, Ferris continued her historic run. She won the 100-yard backstroke for the third consecutive year, becoming the first swimmer in conference history to claim the event three straight times, touching in 51.07. She also captured the 100-yard butterfly title with another conference record of 51.34 and added a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, earning All-Mountain West honors in all three events. Her performance led to her being named Co-Swimmer of the Meet.

Ferris qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, and competed in the 100-yard freestyle. She became Nevada's first All-American since 2023 after placing ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.98, earning Second Team All-America honors. She added a 22nd-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (51.72) and placed 51st in the 100-yard freestyle (49.25). Her NCAA results contributed 12 points, securing Nevada's first national finish (T-33rd) since 2023.

Ferris is the first Nevada student-athlete to earn a major Mountain West swimming or diving award since Melissa Mirafuentes, who was named Mountain West Diver of the Year in 2023-24.
